First for the drawbacks; 1)It is easy to lose the balls if you don't make a point of collecting them after play and keeping them somewhere safe, 2)There is music that plays continuously while it is on, which can be annoying for some, and 3)The play cycle is rather short so you or baby must keep pressing plunger to start it again.This might be a welcome respite for those offended by #2.
BUT: All four of my boys LOVED this toy!!!A favorite, and a toy I always buy or recommend to others.Perfect for a boy or girl.My boys were enthralled by the colorful balls shooting out of the hole and amazed when they almost always went where they were supposed to, which is around the ramp and back into the receptacle.They also LOVED to feel the air blow out of the toy (the air is what pushes the ball up and out of the hole) and would often just press the plunger to feel the air on their faces, hands and in their hair.They quickly learned to start the toy themselves and would be entertained by it longer than they would be by other toys.All of my boys got this toy for their first birthdays (I am a toy manufacturers dream, I sell toys in Mom2Mom sales after on child outgrows them and then end up buying them again for subsequent kids-- can't stand clutter and feel they deserve their own stuff).

National Geographic Atlas of the World, Eighth Edition [Hardcover] Review

In December 2004, National Geographic (NG) updated the Persian Gulf plate (Plate 75) to accomodate the controversies surrounding the place-names used in the 8th edition.
Here is my understanding of the changes made:
1. The term "Arabian Gulf" in parenthesis has been deleted.Instead, there is a small note that reads: "Historically and commonly known as the Persian Gulf, this body of water is also referred by some as the Arabian Gulf."
2. Persian names of all Iranian islands are used.(Kish instead of Qeys, Lavan alone instead of adding Sheykh Sha'eyb in parenthesis)
3. Deletion of "Occupied by Iran (Claimed by U.A.E.)" in reference to the islands Abu Musa, and Greater and Lesser Tunbs.
These changes already appear on the website (www.nationalgeographic.com/mapmachine) and will apply to further printings or editions of the NG Atlas.Also, on the password-protected website for NG Atlas owners, there is a "brief summary of the historical origin of the term Persian Gulf".There is also a note on the place-naming policy of NG.(The online update feature is great - you can download and/or print updated plates and put them in your atlas.This not new for NG Atlases, except that they used to send updates by mail.)
Overall, I am impressed with NG's response to this situation.I am also very impressed with the quality of the atlas and its contents, except for the outermost/superficial binding paper.I have had the atlas for about 6 months, and with moderate use, the paper around the bottom of the spine has frayed.The binding itself is intact, though.

The Porn Star Guide to Great Sex [Hardcover] Review

The Porn Star Guide to Great Sex (out June 22) is Mr. Marcus' first book and you can tell because the writing is so simplistic. The man even refers to a commonly used writing technique among high schoolers: referring to Merriam-Webster's Collegiate Dictionary to tell readers what a word means. I'm sure he wanted to back up his info with credible sources, but I think it's perfectly fine if a porn star just defined "clitoris" in his own words. At least the "professional lover" keeps it straight up (with his advice, I mean). Even though at times it felt like the book should've been titled Seducing Mr. Marcus instead, I didn't completely mind his conversational tone and anecdotes. Why? Because at least the book took a different route than many of the others on this list. That said, I'm never wearing crotchless panties. Sorry.

The boyfriend says: It's banal. He switches from first person to second person, which makes me think he didn't write all of it. The funny thing is he says do this, this and this, but he doesn't say listen to her reaction to see if it's working. And I must be a better porn connoisseur than he is because he says anal sex is relatively new within the porn world. Ha! He must not have watched any German porn from the 70's.

Sony DCR-SX44 Flash memory Handycam Camcorder (Red) Review

Since its purchase on Monday, April 6, 2009 at my local Best Buy, I've been very satisfied with this wonderful, portable camcorder.

Before I purchased this camcorder, I used to produce videos with both my Hitachi VM-E635LA 8mm and RCA CC6262 VHS-C camcorders, and while videotaping was simple, capturing and editing on a computer became both troublesome and a hassle, but thanks to my Sony HandyCam DCR-SX41, computer-based video editing has never been any easier for me.

For those who are expecting High Definition video, this camcorder is NOT for you as it records in 720x480 Standard Definition on the highest recording setting [HQ].

Keep in mind, if you are looking into purchasing this camcorder, I highly recommend setting the recording setting to HQ for the best picture quality, as some who've reviewed this camcorder have mentioned poorness in picture quality.

Pros:At a first glance, the camcorder is small enough to fit in the palm of your hand and is lightweight and portable enough to take anywhere.The battery life is excellent and gives you up to two hours [if your camcorder's recording mode is set to HQ] when fully charged and to make this camcorder an even sweeter deal, it comes with 8 Gigabytes of internal, solid-state flash memory, [much like USB flash drives] which means no internal moving mechanisms, adding longevity to the camcorder's life.The Sony HandyCam DCR-SX41 also has a Pro-Duo Memory Stick slot for memory expansion, adding extra hours to capture those once-in-a-lifetime moments.This camcorder also has a responsive LCD touch screen for easy access to changing various camcorder settings, including recording modes, picture settings and white balance. The Carl Zeiss Vario-Tessar lens delivers excellent picture quality [again on the HQ setting] for such a tiny camcorder.Finally, this camcorder is quite durable for its size.I've dropped mine at least three times in a year's time and it still works like the day I've unboxed it.

Cons:While this camcorder is great, there are some things that it lacks.Being since this is an entry-level camcorder for the consumer, it is not expandable for external audio, such as adding a shotgun, handheld or lavalier microphone.It also lacks a headphone jack for previewing audio, and while the Sony HandyCam DCR-SX41 has a built-in speaker, it is not the best for previewing audio from your videos directly from the camcorder itself, and while the Carl Zeiss Vario-Tessar lens delivers great picture quality [again on the HQ setting] auto focus can be troublesome at times during low-light conditions [especially when your camcorder's picture setting is set to auto (I highly recommend using the Twilight setting, which reduces focusing issues in lower-lit places)].

Despite the camcorder's down-sides, the Sony HandyCam DCR-SX41 is overall a very good camcorder for what it's worth and is great for entry-level, amateur film-makers and freelance videographers.
