The maximum load capacity was what lured me into getting the Vanguard Alta Pro 263AT tripod and this ball head. But both of these are HEAVY. The head itself is about a pound or two. The controls aren't very smooth to operate. The ball head doesn't glide easily (don't know if that's intentional design or it's because it's a new head).
